- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2014I would highly recommend this setup to anyone with factory siderails who needs crossbars for carrying bikes/kayaks/ladders/cargo/etc for several reasons:
1) Ease of install/uninstall - can be installed or removed in under 10 minutes easily. Couldn't be engineered any better for ease of installation. Probably can fit any siderail, even body-color rails as the mount is all rubberized.
2) Thule warranty - lifetime
3) Strength of mount - once on, this thing feels like it's part of the car; solid as a rock
4) "Flexibility" of bars - any and everything will mount to these bars; the same cannot be said of the newer "aero" bars
5) What you get for the price - mounts, crossbars, and 4 locking cores; all this retails for about $310 on Amazon separately. And believe me, you'll need the locks - this rack could be taken off in no time flat.
Ultimately, if you're looking for a crossbar setup for a car with factory siderails it will come down to this, Yakima's option, or some of the more expensive "aero" bars. The aero bars look great (more so on some cars than others, IMO) but are more expensive and require adapters for certain rack accessories (bike mounts, etc.).
The only possible negative for some is the wind noise that is inevitable with any non-aero bar (and even some aero-style). If this gets to you, you'll need a fairing or try the rope-wrap technique mentioned in other reviews.
In a nutshell, if you value function over form, then this is the rack for you.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2013Thule is the brand when it comes to attaching things to your vehicle. I purchased this product in order to carry a cargo box for a long road trip.
It was easily to install. The rubberized straps tighten about the roof rails with the help of the attached hex tool.
It's solid and the cargo box attached easily and securely to the crossbars. There were absolutely no problems during an 8-day, 2,000 road trip.
I cannot comment on:
1.) how it will hold up being rained on, snowed on, beat upon by the merciless sun (especially the locks)
2.) any degradation to fuel efficiency (I don't use the cargo box regularly so I will probably removed the crossbars when I don't need the cargo box)
3.) if Thule quality makes these crossbars better than less expensive crossbars (e.g., 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 Honda Odyssey Cross Bars OE Style Fast Shipping)
I took 1-star off because:
1.) The locks will difficult to push into the mounts. Not impossible and not time-consuming, but not elegant.
2.) Wind noise - you do notice a sound of the wind as the crossbars cut through the air. An easy solution is to wrap each crossbar with cord (start from one each and go to the other using a 1-inch spacing).
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2018According to Amazon, these would fit a Ford Flex, but once they were up there it was plainly obvious we need the longer size.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2013I would give either a zero or a negative review if possible.
This is most entirely due to Amazon and their lack of customer service.
The problem is that the rack only came with 2 lock cylinders instead of the 4 that is advertised.
Amazon makes it very difficult to interact on issues like this.
I don't want to return the racks but need the missing pieces... which by the way becomes costly if purchased individually.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2013I am fairly certain this system had been returned. The bars were dusty, the box taped and wrecked. The bars are different lengths. All of these facts aside, it is not a big enough problem for me to go through the return process. Still, the rack fit well and works fine on my mid-size station wagon.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2018I bought these to go on my daughter's crosstrek, to carry the cargo box she used to come back from Texas, and then to put them on my car. We both have Subaru crosstreks. Bars fit perfect, and tightening system is really interesting. be careful with the caps that have the lock. if you don't put them back on properly, you can break the plastic clip off inside but they are replaceable. On the Subaru they do whistle at below freeway speeds, and hum at higher speeds. I'm going to buy the Thule fairing to put in the front bar that's supposed to stop the noise. But these bars are very strong, and very well made. I bought them for the Tule motion XXL XT cargo box and they work perfect.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2012First off the shipping was quick and worry free.
The product arrived early with no issues. I also want to point out the sizing instructions were a great addition as it took the guessing game completely out of the equation. Thanks to Thule and Amazon.
It is a great looking roof rack and i have no concerns about trasnporting two kayaks on this thing. Installations was super easy, only taking about 10 mintues for my 2012 Jeep Patriot. I would definitely reccomend this product if your looking for a roof rack and want to avoid the hassle of going through a dealership.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Secure and quiet. Don't waste your money on the "more aerodynamic" ones
I bought these for a long roadtrip we were taking in my wife's SUV. They mounted on easily and were very secure. I thought about upgrading to the winged shaped bars (more aerodynamic) , for less noise, but these were very quiet. In fact if you have the Thule cargo carrier mounted properly (centered and weight evenly distributed throughout the box and not overfilled) You will probably forget its even on the vehicle. On a long 4,500km trip we barley noticed that the Thule cargo carrier was there, and it barely made a difference in gas mileage. I was very happy and impressed with it. I recommend these and would not pay more for "more aerodynamic ones" as I doubt you would notice any difference (besides price).
