- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2024This is a book we read to our Grandson's mother when she was a little girl. It was a favorite for her and now for her son. A classic in our family.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2009We used to read this book to our daughters when they were children. Since we lost track of our original book, I decided that we needed a new copy to read to our grandchildren.
The kids in the story keep going to their grandpa with "big" problems, and his standard reply is, "could be worse." It seems that Grandpa is just helping them to put things in perspective as well as understand that there really is no complaint department. That is unless you take into consideration the person in the mirror- and they really don't want to hear you belly ache either! In the end, he tells the kids a wild exaggerated story of his "problems," and they take great delight in telling grandpa that it "could be worse!"
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2024My grandparents had this book growing up. It was my all time favorite one to read whenever we went for a visit.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2024I Loved it at 7yrs old and my Grandson Loves it as well.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2021I read Stevenson's book to my children 30+ years ago, and I may have liked them more than they did, but they seemed to appreciate his point of view. I was saddened to find none at my local library now to read to my grandchildren. When I read one to their daycare class, they seemed to get it.
For the parents or grandparents reading them, there's enough gentle sacrasm and cynicism to keep them interesting and enough plot to keep the wee ones interested (and I think they get the sarcasm more than we suspect).
I don't know if you should spend much of your own money to buy them, but perhaps you can get them through inter-library loan. If enough people request them, perhaps the publisher will re-issue them.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2023It's awful that James Stevenson is out of print. Used books are a fortunate second possibility.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2023Loved this when our kids were little and still read it to our grandkids.

2.0 out of 5 stars Health and Well being topic
This book had very few words and did not make any impact on the work I was doing in the class. Maybe a bit too difficult a subject for young (P2) to understand.
