I suffer from chronic insomnia and often I find myself lying in bed for several hours, eyes wide open staring at the ceiling until long after the sun rises. Usually it's hard for me to get back on track sleep-wise but I started using a different sleep mask awhile ago and it really helped me for some reason, then I misplaced it and I had to order a new one, which was this one.
This is a heavy little mask, which is a good thing, it's very soft and the fabric that presses against your temple, eyelids and forehead is very soft and accommodating. There's a Velcro strap that you can use to adjust the tightness. I know some people like theirs pretty tight, but I actually prefer it on the looser side which is easily doable with this mask. No matter the tightness or looseness it completely blots out all light around you, whether it's daylight or dim lights like a phone charger or a clock radio's LED numbers which to as any insomniac knows, in the middle of the night might as well be brighter than the sun at midday.
I've read some reviews that complain about the "lavender scent" that is sort of infused with the mask. I noticed it at first as well, but I thought it was rather pleasant. However, if you wear the mask enough, which if you're buying it, you probably will, the scent quickly fades away-- I'm not sure if it's actually gone or if I'm just so used to wearing it, but I know that I've not smelled the lavender scent since about a week or two after I started wearing it.
The only con about this mask is probably a byproduct of the best pro which is that it blocks out light so incredibly well that when you wake up you have no idea where you are or what time it is until you remove it. One time I woke up and the sun was shining directly in my window and I removed the mask and the light of day temporarily blinded me! It was only about two seconds but I panicked for a second and my vision quickly returned. In all fairness, that could have been because I've had laser eye surgery and I have sensitive eyes to begin with.
All in all, this is a five star sleeping mask and if you have troubles sleeping or you just don't like the light, buy it!
